Touhou Koumakyou New Classic One credit through the Scarlet Mist
Learn in Challenge Mode, then spend bombs only on the cards that actually end credits.
A 1CC in Touhou Koumakyou New Classic is one limited-life credit from Stage 1 through Remilia with no continue. Extra is a separate unlock, not part of the story 1CC. Easy still stops at Stage 5, so an Easy credit never counts as a full 1CC. Steam’s day-one English reviews sit around 98 percent of about 893, with roughly 2,149 reviews across languages — the player base is already posting Lunatic footage. This page is the plan; the stage walkthrough is the map.
What a 1CC is not
Challenge Mode with unlimited lives is a classroom. The HUD prints Infinite and a death count. That run is not a 1CC even if you timeout Remilia. Spell Practice captures are not a 1CC. Classic 1.02h imports do not grant New Classic Extra. Treat those tools as homework, then take a real credit. Extra still needs Normal or higher with no continue; see Extra Stage.
Shot and difficulty
First 1CC: Reimu A or Marisa A on Normal. Homing and missiles forgive the Stage 3 extra waves New Classic added after Meiling’s usual close. Leave Reimu B and Marisa B until you can hold a line under Patchouli. Lunatic 1CC is the same six stages with denser timing; no-bomb Lunatic is a later trophy, not a first goal. Compare kits on the shot type ranking.
The practice loop
- Challenge Mode, chosen shot, Normal. Play Stages 1–6 once. Note every card that added two or more deaths.
- Open Spell Practice on those cards only. New Classic added this trainer; Classic does not have it. Drill until a capture feels boring.
- Repeat Challenge Mode. The death counter should fall. If Stage 3 still spikes, read the extra fairy waves on the walkthrough — the old Classic corner safespot is gone.
- Start limited-life credits. Continue is allowed while you learn routing. Extra stays locked until a clean Normal-or-higher finish.
- When you can reach Remilia with two lives in hand, stop continuing. That is the 1CC attempt.
The practice planner is the daily checklist. Controls should already be locked so a misbind does not spend a bomb.
Bomb budget
Start a credit with three bombs unless a extend already dropped. Spend them on:
- Stage 3’s extra end-of-stage waves if you are not streaming cleanly
- Sakuya’s denser knife walls on Stage 5
- Remilia’s second nonspell (the delay between waves is tighter in New Classic) and Scarlet Gensokyo if you cannot timeout calmly
Do not bomb Rumia. Do not bomb Cirno’s opener. Do not dump Master Spark or Fantasy Seal on a pattern you already captured in Spell Practice. New Classic no longer lets you premelt Remilia’s last spell or Flandre’s Q.E.D. before the declaration — damage you deal early does not skip the card. Plan the whole duration. Details sit on How to Beat Remilia and How to Beat Flandre.
Lunatic and no-bomb
Lunatic 1CC uses the same route with less room. Watch a New Classic Lunatic no-bomb credit to see which safespots still exist: Eternal Meek and Starbow Break safespots still work; Stage 3’s old corner does not. Copy bomb-less routing only after your Normal 1CC is consistent. A no-bomb Lunatic is a demonstration, not a requirement for Extra.
Classic versus New Classic 1CC
If you want a 2002-shaped 1CC, boot Classic after you already know the cards. Classic has Japanese menus, no Spell Practice, no visible hitbox, and the original square-derived object sizes. New Classic bullets are circular (the inscribed circle of the old squares), so they are slightly more generous. Do not mix the two rulesets in one credit. The product split is on New Classic vs Classic; mechanical deltas are listed under gameplay changes.
After the 1CC
Unlock Extra, then treat Flandre as a new resource graph. Scoring extends (10 / 20 / 40 / 60 million as the original reference) matter more if you want extra lives for Extra, not for the story 1CC. Read scoring if you are hunting those thresholds. Steam achievements track shot-specific Normal-or-higher clears; they do not replace the 1CC.
The remaster is out. The tools are in the pause menu. Use them, then take one credit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about New Classic, Classic, shot types, and Extra Stage.
Does Challenge Mode count as a 1CC?
No. Unlimited lives with a death counter is practice. A 1CC is one limited-life credit with no continue through Remilia on Normal or higher.
Which shot should I 1CC first?
Reimu A or Marisa A on Normal. See the shot type ranking and Getting Started.
Why did my Stage 3 safespot disappear?
New Classic adds extra enemy waves at the end of Stage 3. The Classic corner safespot is gone. Route it on the walkthrough.
Can I skip Remilia's last spell with early damage?
No. New Classic blocks premelting Remilia's final spell and Flandre's Q.E.D. before they declare. Plan the full card.
Is Lunatic required for Extra?
No. Extra unlocks from a no-continue Normal-or-higher story clear. Lunatic is optional prestige.
