Touhou Koumakyou New Classic Flandre Scarlet, ten cards
Safe routes versus RNG, from Cranberry Trap to Ripples of 495 Years.
Flandre Scarlet is Extra’s boss in Touhou Koumakyou New Classic, locked behind a Normal-or-higher 1CC. This page is her ten cards. Stage portions, the two 1UPs, and Patchouli’s Silent Selene / Royal Flare / Philosopher’s Stone belong on Extra Stage. Extra is a separate credit with no continues and a poor resource graph.
Learn every named card below in New Classic Spell Practice. A real Extra credit still ends when lives hit zero. Classic Extra has no trainer. New Classic also blocks premelting Q.E.D. before the card declares — wait for the name, then shoot. Eternal Meek and Starbow Break safespots still work.
Shot recommendations
Marisa A (magic missiles / Stardust Reverie) is the Extra default: she moves, missiles still hit, and extra damage ends RNG cards before they escalate. Reimu B (needles / Evil-Sealing Circle) is the other Extra staple if you can sit under her. Reimu A homing is safest when she is off-screen, but it struggles on Cranberry Trap. Marisa B fails when she leaves the laser. First Extra clears: Marisa A if you miss her often, Reimu B if your focus control is already Stage 6-good. Enter at 128 power with bombs left. If Patchouli spent two lives, reset Extra.
Nonspells
Her nonspells are mostly random circles while she walks. Stay at a mid-low height, stream the aimed layer, and focus the leftovers. Do not spend bombs on nonspells; you need them for Four of a Kind, Starbow Break, and Q.E.D.
Taboo “Cranberry Trap”
Invisible enemies run the edges. Purple bullets converge toward mid-screen; blue bullets aim at you. The trap is the edges plus the converge, not her sprite. Stay off the walls, treat the purple as a cage, and stream the blue. Reimu A homing does not solve this card — chasing her into an edge spawn is a death. Damage her when the pocket is already safe. Bomb if both colors close at once. Safe route: center-low, small focused adjustments.
Taboo “Laevateinn”
She swings the sword as a laser that leaves bullet trails. While she spins, the open space is behind her. Walk into that pocket, hit her from the safe side, and leave before the trail completes a cage. Sweep versions want you to pre-move into the lane the sword already vacated. Do not hug the bottom the entire card; the trails will pin you.
Taboo “Four of a Kind”
Three clones plus the real Flandre, each throwing a different circle. Identify the real one (boss marker helps) and sit under her. Bomb the clones when the overlap is already a wall — that is a correct Extra spend. Trying to micro all four circles is how first clears die with unused bombs. Safe route: pick the real one, ignore clone HP, bomb if two clones share your lane.
Taboo “Kagome Kagome”
A cage in the spirit of the children’s circle game. The walls are more honest than Cranberry Trap. Find the rotating gap, walk it, and do not reverse. Focus the whole card. If you miss the gap, bomb rather than clipping the cage. Capture is realistic once the gap direction is memorized.
Taboo “Maze of Love”
Fully static. Three known routes: spin through every intended gap, bottom-hug and take several micros, or hybrid — spin the first wave, then micro the rest. Learn one route in Spell Practice. A death here is a homework miss, not RNG. Do not bomb Maze of Love unless you already lost the route.
Forbidden Barrage “Starbow Break”
Rainbow rings and a density jump. Unfocused to change rings, focused to thread. Safe route is a slow horizontal walk that never reverses into a ring you just passed. Bomb if a ring has already closed both sides.
Forbidden Barrage “Catadioptric”
Optics and reflections: bullets that bounce or fold as if through a lens. Watch the bounce edges, not her sprite. Stay off the walls. If a bounce cluster has already sealed the bottom, bomb.
Forbidden Barrage “Clock that Ticks Away the Past”
Clock-face lanes and timed pulses. Pick a sector, step when the pulse says so, and do not invent a second sector mid-pulse. Shoot her while you walk the sector. Bomb only after a pulse has already misaligned you.
Secret Barrage “And Then Will There Be None?”
Survival card. She vanishes and the screen fills. Timeout is the capture. If the timer hits zero without a hit or a bomb, you get the spell bonus. Do not dump Master Spark at 3 seconds. Play the visible hitbox, micro, and let the clock finish. A bomb voids the bonus and still leaves you in the pattern.
Q.E.D. “Ripples of 495 Years”
Last card. Expanding circles bounce on walls and speed up as time passes and as her HP drops. This is the opposite of a timeout card. Kill her. Sitting on the timer makes the ripples worse. Stay off the walls, take the current pocket, and keep shooting. If a ripple has already closed, bomb and finish. After And Then Will There Be None?, keep a bomb on purpose.
Cranberry Trap, Four of a Kind, Starbow Break, Catadioptric, and Q.E.D. have random elements. Maze of Love does not. Plan bombs for the RNG cards and Q.E.D., not for static homework. If Four of a Kind and Starbow Break both took lives, reset rather than failing Q.E.D. at 20 power. When she falls, Extra is cleared. Return to Extra Stage only if Patchouli is still leaking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about New Classic, Classic, shot types, and Extra Stage.
Which shot should I use for Flandre?
Marisa A or Reimu B. Missiles keep hitting when she leaves the column; needles delete HP if you can sit under her. Reimu A homing helps most cards except Cranberry Trap. Rankings: shot type ranking.
Should I timeout And Then Will There Be None? or Q.E.D.?
Timeout And Then Will There Be None? — that is the capture. Do not timeout Q.E.D. Ripples of 495 Years; it gets harder as HP and time change. Kill Q.E.D.
Is Maze of Love RNG?
No. It is static. Learn a spin, a bottom-hug micro route, or a hybrid in Spell Practice. A death there is a route miss, not bad luck.
When should I bomb Four of a Kind?
When clone patterns overlap your lane. Deleting clones with a bomb is a correct Extra spend. Trying to micro all four circles is how first clears die with unused bombs.
Why does Cranberry Trap ignore Reimu A homing?
The threat is edge spawners and converging purple cages, not Flandre's position. Homing does not place you in a legal pocket. Stay center-low and stream the aimed blue.
What if I reach Flandre on one life?
Reset Extra unless you are specifically drilling her opening nonspell. Patchouli and the stage portions should deliver two lives and 128 power. See Extra Stage.
